Introduction et contexte:
UNESCO seeks to recruit a Digitization Project Assistant for the project “Digitizing UNESCO’s Institutional Memory”. The scope of this project is to digitize selected parts of UNESCO’s Archives, including a good proportion of audiovisual materials.
The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Digitization Project Coordinator and the overall responsibility of the Chief Archivist.
Missions:
Activities:
• Prepare the collections to be digitized: creation of spreadsheets from existing databases/indexes/catalogues, identification and retrieval of the materials, dusting, barcoding, etc.
• Help in the logistics of the setting up of the digitization laboratory.
• Move the collections to be digitized from the stacks to the digitization laboratory.
• Maintain daily contact with the lab, in liaison with the Digitization Project Coordinator, report to this latter on progress and on possible problems such as risks of delays in the workflow.
• Help the Digitization Project Coordinator in monitoring the project’s progress via the statistics on the project’s platform.
• Link the digital files received to metadata to be imported from UNESCO’s databases onto the project’s platform and entering the relevant metadata, when applicable.
• Run daily quality checks of the digital files received.
• Participate in the activities of promotion of the digital collections, such as the blog on the project’s platform, etc.
Profil recherché:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
• Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• At least two years of relevant professional experience with archives and/or library collections.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
• Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Genuine interest in and sensitivity to archival heritage collections.
• Attention to detail, meticulousness.
• Sense of commitment and reliability.
• Flexibility.
• Ability to work as part of a team, to take initiatives and to provide quality and timely support services.
• Ability to enter structured information (metadata and descriptions) and search archival repositories databases and other finding aids.
• Good IT skills, including knowledge of MS software (Word, Excel etc.)
LANGUAGES
• Excellent knowledge of English or French and good working knowledge of the other language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
• Specialized training/certification recognized by the international professional community in archives/library/information studies.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• Experience of working on a digitization project involving delicate and historical materials.
• Experience of back office use of archives or library databases.
Modalités de recrutement:
Type of contract: Project Appointment, 1 year with possibility of a 6-month extension
Annual salary: 31 341 EUROS
